The Eagle's Nest: New Mister, New Page?
Wednesday, 17 February 2010

With Lazio sitting in precariously in the dreaded drop zone, the hapless Davide Ballardini was finally given his walking papers. In a last ditch effort to reverse Lazio's precipitous drop, the team was handed over to Edy Reja who is considered a miracle man for his stewardship of Napoli from Serie C to the UEFA cup. The much anticipated coaching change seems to have had the desired effects as the biancocelesti played perhaps their best 90 minutes of football all year and toppled Parma 2-0 away from home.

Under Reja, the Eagles seem to have rediscovered some of the confidence that had been so obviously lacking under Ballardini not to mention the tactical discipline that had been missing since the midway point of last year under Rossi. It also helped that Reja could finally count on Ledesma as the Argentine prodigal son returned to the starting eleven after 8 months of inactivity.

While it is certainly far too early to consider Lazio safe, the encouraging signs out of the team have surprised even Reja. With every game from here until the end of the season effectively becoming finals, Lazio will need to build on the accomplishment of Parma. If Reja can succeed in turning this season around and save the club from relegation, and of course who could forget that there is also a derby yet to play, a place in Lazio's pantheon will surely be his. The blue and white legion certainly hope he can.

Forza Mister, Forza Lazio!
